Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition celebrates efforts to increase bicycle safety

Jul 19, 2023Jul 19, 2023

Not all heroes wear capes. Or can leap tall buildings in a single bound. Instead, some wear colorful helmets and get around on bicycles.

The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, founded in 2001 (a Bike Odyssey?) will honor bicycle rock stars in the county who have made heroic efforts to help the coalition’s mission to make bicycling safe and accessible to everyone.

The Golden Spoke Awards Gala will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) at the Finley Center in Santa Rosa. The awards will include:

The Coalition has received nominations from its members and local residents for each of the four categories. “We are so appreciative of the many people, businesses and institutions that help us make bicycling safer for kids and commuters throughout the county,” added Bard.

So what can you expect at the Golden Spoke Gala? In addition to fantastic local food, wine, beer and desserts, there will be amazing silent-auction items from amazing local donors, a celebration of awardees and the important work of the bicycle coalition.

Added bonus: You get to hang out with really fun people! For more information and tickets: bikesonoma.org/gala.

The vision of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition is simple. More people on bicycles! More children riding safely to school! More neighbors bicycling for transportation, recreation and exercise! More protected bicycle lanes! All of that makes for a healthier citizenry and healthier environment.

The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition has a dedicated staff of eight, a volunteer board of seven and the support of nearly 1,000 members. Combined, they help to:
